For many of us it will still be a thing of science fiction movie but it’s true that L’Oreal, A French cosmetic company starting up to print 3D human skin with the help of Bio Engineering Techniques by joining hands with A Research Laboratory Organovo. L’Oreal claims that the method is safe as the skin samples are to be grown from tissues donated by plastic surgery patients. However L’Oreal yet to launch this publicly as according to the company it is still in early stage research. There are different views from different people on this. A consultant dermatologist Adam Friedmann at the Harley Street dermatology clinic said, “I think the science behind it – using 3D printing methods with human cells – sounds plausible.”

This is not the first time someone grown Laboratory Printed Organs. The Wake Forest Institute was the first one to start growing liver in Laboratory. However the method used by Organovo is different and efficient and the first ever to offer it to commercial market. According to A bioengineering research scientist at Heriot Watt university, Alan Faulkner-Jones,”Skin is quite easy to print because it is a layered structure. The advantages for the cosmetics industry would be that it doesn’t have to test products on animals and will get a better response from human skin.” He further told to BBC in an interview, “It would be a great thing to have stores of spare skins for burn victims.”
