Are Samsung Looking To Buy BlackBerry?

There have been some interesting reports with a major question being asked – Are Samsung Looking To Buy BlackBerry. It is alleged that the tech giant have offered $7.5 billion (about £4.92 billion) to purchase the Canadian firm at which point BlackBerry’s shares soared up 30%. Reuters are claiming that executives from Samsung and BlackBerry had a meeting last week and this saw BlackBerry’s share price hit it’s highest in years.

However Samsung have claimed that they could “confirm media reports of the acquisition are groundless”, whilst Blackberry have said that they were “aware of certain press reports” but did confirm that they had “not engaged in discussions with Samsung with respect to any possible offer to purchase”.

Following these two statements BlackBerry’s share price resumed to normal. Is it a case that there is no smoke without fire though? It will be interesting to see how this story develops in the coming months.
