Samsung Will Reduce Smartphone Numbers
Samsung have confirmed that they will be reducing the number of smartphone models in 2015 in an effort to cut costs, as their Chinese rivals continue to release budget smartphones.
Samsung’s Robert Yi said “In 2015, we will lower the number of smartphone models by one fourth to one third compared with this year. This would allow us a chance to lower the prices of remaining models through mass production.”
The decision comes after Samsung posted its poorest quarterly earnings for 3 years in Q3 of 2014, hit by increasing competition at both ends of the smartphone market.
they have been hit hard by Apple‘s new iPhones that can now compete with larger screens and also competitors at the other end of the smartphone market such as Xiaomi, Huawei and Lenovo in budget to mid range smartphone markets. It will be interesting to see how this move works out for Samsung and they certainly know their strategies so it will probably be a wise move for them.
