Tablet Sales Predicted To Slow Down In 2015
According to technology research company Gartner tablet sales will increase in 2015, but generally it will slow down. In 2015, it is estimating the sale of 233 million new tablets which means an 8% increase compared to 2014. This also means that tablet sales are slowing and it is happening due to the fact that consumers are keeping their tablet computers such as Apple iPads for longer than expected rather than upgrading to newer models. Also the devices are being passed on to other family members rather than buying them new ones.
Ranjit Atwal is a research director at Gartner and he said: “The lifetime of tablets is being extended – they are shared out among family members, and software upgrades, especially for iOS devices, keep the tablets current. Another factor includes the lack of innovation in hardware, which refrains consumers from upgrading. We also expect development in cognisant computing to help the vendors’ relationships with consumers evolve from passive providers of hardware to in-sync with the user.”
