Xiaomi Sold Over 60 Million Units In 2014

We have written a few articles on Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi in recent months as the company go from strength to strength. They recently became the world’s richest technology startup. The company now claim that its smartphone shipments increased three fold in 2014, which excelled the expectations that they had. Apparently Xiamomi sold 61.1 million units in 2014 which is an increase from just 18.7 million sold the previous year.

Xiaomi founder Lei Jun recently said “In 2015, the smart devices playing field will become extremely competitive, especially as the growth of the smartphone industry in mainland China slows down,”

He also claimed that industry competitors were trying to replicate his company’s business model although he didn’t actually expand on how they were apparently doing so. He added that Xiaomi had sold more than 1 million smartphones in India in 5 months.

He also said that Xiaomi would break into more overseas markets in 2015, but again didn’t expand on this information.

He founded Xiaomi in 2010 and the company has grown at some speed to become the number 1 selling smartphone company in China. They have achieved this by creating the budget smartphone and offering an affordable device with features that can still compete with the high end models made by the likes of Apple and Samsung.
